The nominations for the 48th annual Grammy Awards were announced today and those leading the pack were among the most popular artists of ths past year. Mariah Carey scored big with her album The Emancipation of Mimi garnering an Album of the Year nom alongside Gwen Stefani’s Love.Angel.Music.Baby and Kanye West’s Late Registration. Singles from these albums were also nominated for Record of the Year. Carey also landed a Song of the Year nomination for “We Belong Together” from Mimi.
In the Best New Artist category, hip-hop princess Ciara battles pop-punks Fall Out Boy, as well as Keane, John Legend, and SugarLand.
To be eligible for nomination, a recording had to be released between October 1, 2004, and September 30, 2005. The awards ceremony will take place February 8 in Los Angeles.
