The Click FIve – Greetings from Imrie House

O’migod They’re Totally Cute!

The Click Five is the latest incarnation of the young poppy boy bands to make it to TRL, but they’re totally fresh because they wear suits. The music on Greetings from Imrie House is the same schlock you have heard before. Imagine the lead singer from Coheed and Cambria chopping off all his hair and joining Sugarcult. This falsetto heavy disc is typical of the mush many teens identify with thanks to its easy accessibility. You’re sad over a crush? No way, me too! At first listen it’s difficult to believe bands like this still get record deals, but then again Blink-182 just released a greatest hits album so it’s fair to say Hell has frozen over.

The lyrics on Greetings from Imrie House are cute. Cute lyrics are only a step above purely wretched ones. On their first single, “Just the Girl,” the boys croon, “She can’t keep a secret/For more than an hour/She runs on 100 proof attitude power/And the more she ignores me/The more I adore her.” Do any non-virgins really fall for that stuff?

ame It’s likely that all these detractions are the same reasons parents cite when explaining why they let their children listen to this music. But one can only hope that, much like pot, this band is a gateway to better things down the road.

ame Just because The Click Five are marketed as being edgier than The Backstreet Boys doesn’t mean they are any less saccharine. Remaking Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now” without making any creative changes certainly doesn’t help. Buy this if you must, but don’t blast it too loud when you score the keys to mom’s Aerostar.
