Chevelle – This Type Of Thinking Could Do Us In

Anyone For Seconds?

Modern rock’s most radio-friendly band comes in the form of three brothers, lovingly known as Chevelle, whose first major label debut, Wonder Whats Next, swept the nation with their ability to cross over into different subgenres of rock. Intense radio saturation and an incessant touring path has made these brothers a household name on the rock scene. So what’s the strategy for their sophomore album, This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In? Replicate the exact same sound as their first album, of course! Not that this is always a bad thing. And in fact, in Chevelle’s case it isn’t. The same chunky guitar riffs mixed with slightly nervously resonating vocals found on their debut are carried over on This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In. While the musical elite may chastise the band for not letting the music progress into something different or better, those fans who caught on to their unique sound- emotionally charged lyrics cathartically mixed with crisp and pulsating guitar work – are in store for second helping of Wonder Whats Next.

Chevelle once again flex their muscle for writing songs with the sort of catchy hook that leaves you bobbing your head in approval. Songs like “Vitamin R” and “Clincher” highlight This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In. And while cashing in on the success from a previous album’s sound works for the time being, you’ve got to wonder how much longer the ride will last. In the meantime, however, Chevelle brings forth another sweet helping of angst nu-rock that should keep the fans full for a while.
