Too Much Metal For One Sentence

Dave Grohl is a man who needs little introduction. An extremely gifted drummer and songwriter, Grohl’s uniqueness lies mainly in his ability to be successful while crossing over into different genres. From his historic drumming for a band that single handedly changed the face of rock and roll, to his more pop-oriented outing fronting the Foo Fighters, to supporting the now cult classic breakthrough album from the Queens of the Stone Age, Grohl could put down the sticks knowing he’s put in enough effort for three musical lifetimes. While Grohl is talented enough to play any kind of music, one could argue that his true heart lies in the form of heavy, brutality-laden metal. As such, in an effort to bring together some of metal’s all time greats, he’s assembled Probot -including a supporting cast that has enough metal to erect a 22 story building.Cookie cutter, radio friendly nu-metal this album is not. From the first track “Centuries of Sin” featuring guest vocals from Cronos of Venom fame, one thing is clear – this album has the tenacity and ferociousness of some sort of angry dragon whose diet consists of only metal. An added bonus of the record is that each track is noticeably different – both musically, but more so vocally. Each song features a different vocalist from such great and influential metal bands as Sepultura, Motorhead, Mercyful Fate, Napalm Death and Corrosion of Conformity, ensuring a refreshingly new listen throughout the whole album. And while the album may lack a certain sustainable quality that most single-fronted bands have, therefore perhaps not possessing much staying power, it is nonetheless a solid metal compilation.
