What, you forgot about Pennywise? The classic speed and raw style of one of Punk’s most dramatic bands continues undaunted, clean and refined, in their new album From the Ashes. Building from their previous release Land of the Free? the band continues the task of speaking out against problems in global politics and social disorders. Lacking none of the energy PW fans have grown to love, Ashes brings back memories of cruising’ with the guys and jumping around at shows—memories that had been drowned out in a surge of rising new music.Each song on this album carries its own sincere message. Whether it is a political opinion or a message about being ones’ self and finding out who you really are, Ashes delivers a wake-up pill. Concealed truth, taking liberties for granted, and being blind to our arrogance and reckless ambition (This is Only a Test) – Pennywise is one of those bands that can get away with political rants without being whiney, repetitive brats.
Since their debut in ’89 Pennywise has released an album every other year. This steady progression has helped to avoid sudden jumps in style, and in many ways the sound in Ashes is the same as more than a decade ago. Through the production of Darian Rundall, the talents of each PW band mate are easily recognized, and this is something much appreciated. The combination creates a powerful message, and sets PW up for another straight-ahead decade.
