Rocking a Junior High School Near You
Cashing in off the success of a remake of one of the King of Pop’s classics, Alien Ant Farm definitely managed to strike while the post-90’s nu-metal generation’s iron was hot. While other groups were spewing self-loathing, angst-ridden tirades, Alien Ant Farm oozed out sugarcoated radio-friendly pop. After a few world tours, music videos and extreme radio saturation, the group became a household name among 8th graders nationwide. But a tragic tour bus accident, which left their bus driver dead, threatened to derail their career for good. The band, still nursing their injuries, return with TRUant – a grittier, edgier take on pop-rock. Alien Ant Farm have all the makings of a great rock band – a vocalist boasting a strong and unique set of pipes and a rhythm section that could keep pace with the best of nu-metal bands. But instead of focusing their energies into something meaningful and worthwhile, the band craft each song with a dose of silliness, leading an army of junior high school girls to chant “We love rock music!” Alien Ant Farm’s weapon of choice for infecting their youthful audience; the catchy hook. “These Days” the first single off the album, grits out a power rock feel with a sing-a-long chorus. But these moments are few and far between throughout the album, which ultimately leaves you with a smile on your face and an urge to see what other CD’s your have to listen to.
