Way to Hit Em’ Dave!
Quality Rock and Roll. It’s hard to believe that almost ten years since we’ve heard any? Maybe that’s why Queens of the Stone Age and their new album Songs for the Deaf seems all the more refreshing. This is Rock and Roll at its absolute finest. No nonsense, no excuses, no scene and no style like the new school stripped down sound or rap metal. Songs for the Deaf packs plenty of solid riffs, bass grooves and smooth rock vocal delivery. At the core Queens is a band formed by Bassist Nick Oliveri and guitarist Josh Homme in the aftermath of Kyuss their old band’s break up. Through the last two albums the band has used a revolving door lineup and in this incarnation Nick and Josh are joined by the likes of Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees) and Dean Ween. The secret weapon for this album though, is none other than ex-Nirvana drummer current Foo Fighter Dave Grohl. In Grohl The Queens of the Stone have surely found their perfect drummer. Whether the songs are fast and punky or slow and melodic, Dave complements Josh and Nick exquisitely making this one of the premier rock albums to own of the last 10 years.
