Buffalo-based Indie Rock newcomers the Royal Tongues have released a fresh, new single called “The Balance,” and it’s absolutely fantastic.
The Royal Tongues are composed of Aaron Bonus and Justin Gammella and are a fairly new duo to the rock scene, although the two have been composing for other recording artists and producing music for film and television. Deciding to strike out on their own and calling themselves the Royal Tongue, the duo have made a big critical and commercial smash after releasing “The Balance” just a few short days ago. Drawing from influences such as Youngblood Hawk and Passion Pit, the single feels like a fresh, new take on the up-tempo pop songs that have tended to receive massive radio play in recent months. “The Balance” is a very uplifitng, toe-tapping tune that opens with a few seconds of up-tempo hand-clapping vibrant vocal harmonies. While making the comparison to Passion Pit is justified, a more accurate comparison may be that of a more poppy version of The Killers, replacing the hard-edge rock of the latter with a catchy, soul-stirring rhythm that is found in the former.
Although only lasting a rather paltry three minutes, “The Balance” shows off the talents of a homegrown duo that is sure to feature many more promising hits in the coming months. Be sure to listen to “The Balance” here, and keep your eyes peeled for any details on an upcoming album.
