The New Kenetics’ Birdy Bardot has emerged in a flush of soul and psychadelics as she unveils her new solo project. The project hails from San Diego as part of a growing collective called The Redwoods, a genre-defying independent label. Check out all that The Redwoods are cooking up on their website.
Birdy’s solo material began in a vintage record store of all places after writing alongside Alfred Howard. The new music soon arrived in the studio with Matt Molarius of The Midnight Pine, who helped demo Birdy’s early sounds in the studio. As the creativity commenced, the fully recorded album received contributions by Molarius and The Midnight Pine, Howard himself, Creature and the Woods, Cold Fact, Josh Rice, Jake Najor, Jason Littlefield, Dan Cervantes and Shelbi Bennet. The end result was a psychedelic blend of rock, soul and garage blues into Birdy’s self-titled 9-track album. Birdy Bardot is set to drop the album on July 3rd.
“Treading Water” is a dreamy, glistening, kaleidoscopic tune that you can play over and over again. The whole song cruises along Birdy’s vocals and an unbelievably catchy acoustic guitar. The video features Birdy herself singing and moving to the music while silhouetted in crashing waves.
