Josh Garrels leads his work as a light of hope, healing, and liberation. His blend of folk and hip hop are crafted by his experience in music of over 10 years. This artist, based in Oregon, has founded his own independent label, Small Voice Records. His songs are known for evoking a natural and visceral imagery. With the environment having a large influence on his music, he says, “I’ve always had a deep connection with the woods, fields, and lakes. They somehow make me feel free and timeless, yet also brave and purposeful.”
Working with Mason Jar Music, Garrels filmed The Sea In Between, a full-length music documentary. His talents go beyond music as he strives to make a difference in individual lives. While he produced and composed original songs, Garrels also mentored other musicians in the process. His efforts earned him a regional Emmy nomination in Music Composition.
Once given album of the year for Love & War & The Sea In Between, Christianity Today calls him “prophetic, incisive, achingly human, and longingly spiritual.” Engaging in charitable work, Garrels has used previous albums to raise money for organizations such as World Relief. In total, he has produced a total of 9 studio albums. His latest work, Home, was just released in 2015. In the first week, 45,000 copies were given away freely by Garrels, which he calls his ultimate form of “release.” This later led to his place on the Billboard charts.
