Metric released the first new single, “The Shade,” off of their upcoming album. Metric’s new album is set to be released in September and will be available for preorder starting June 2.
“The Shade” is currently available on iTunes, YouTube, and Spotify. According to a press release, the single was recorded at the Beastie Boys’ legendary Oscilloscope Studios in NYC and the band’s recording studio in Toronto.
Always finding way to reinvent themselves, “The Shade” is a fresh new song with a light feel. The instrumentals in the background all melt into one mellow vibe as lead singer Emily Haines voice holds power over the track. As she sings, she describes scenes of summer such as, “We got the sunshine. We got the shade. We got temptation. We’ve got it made.” The theme of a young romance echoes throughout the track as the chorus repeats throughout the ending.
Throughout their music career, Metric continues to be a ground-breaking band that continues to push their talents and abilities farther than ever expected. The band is made up of Emily Haines, James Shw, Joshua Winstead, and Joules Scott Key. Throughout their career, Metric has created chart-topping hits such as “Help I’m Alive,” Gold Guns Girls,” “Youth Without Youth,” and “Breathing Underwater.” Additionally, the band has accomplished incredible music feats including becoming the first band in history to have their first ever Top 20 hit at U.S. commercial radio without the backing of a traditional label. Their music has been featured in a slew of TV shows and Hollywood films. Also, Metric won two Album of the Year awards, one artist of the year, and was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Metric is currently on tour with Imagine Dragons. Dates and details of that tour can be found here. Don’t forget to check out Metric’s new single, “The Shade,” below. Any additional updates and information on Metric can be found on the group’s official website.
