Rick Terfry, who raps under the moniker of Buck 65, will be kicking off his US tour in March, with his first stop at SXSW. Buck 65 will be accompanied by special guest Astronautalis.
Rick began rapping at the age of 13 and was first signed by Independent record label Murderrecords. He released his first album called Game Tight back in 1994.
Rick has rapped under multiple names in the past such as Johnny Rockwell, Uncle Climax and Stinkin’ Rich, before taking up the name Buck 65.
Buck 65 has released more than 20 full-length albums, Eps and singles and has toured with artists such as Sufjan Stevens, Feist and Sage Francis.
Buck 65’s last album, Neverlove, was released back in September and was written during and after his divorce. Buck previously described his album as a “divorce record, plain and simple,” also stating, “Making this record is how I got through a terrible time in my life.” Neverlove was a strong departure from his normal upbeat sound, however, it did have a few lighthearted songs on the album such as “Super Pretty Naughty”, which can be previewed below.
Our review on his latest album, Neverlove, can be found here.
Astronautalis will be accompanying him on tour. Astronautalis is an alternate hip hop rapper based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Astronautalis has been credited to sounding very similar to Beck, if Beck had been a decade or so younger. Astronautalis recently released a new track called “Sugarface” with Bird Peterson via his website and can be heard here.
Buck’s will begin his tour, performing at The Mohawk during SXSW at the House of Vans party. No word on how to get tickets or to RSVP yet. All upcoming tour dates can be viewed below:
