East India Youth is the stage name for UK electronic musician William Doyle. Doyle released his first album under the East India Youth moniker in January of last year. And this April, he’ll release his second album, Culture of Volume. So far, he he released two tracks from the upcoming release “Carousel” and most recently “Turn Away.” The newest track, “Turn Away,” is more of a pop song than the previous track, so it will be interesting to see what the rest of the album will sound like when it drops this April.
East India Youth will head down to SXSW this March for several performances and then he will hit the road to perform across North America in support of his upcoming release. He’ll be making Philly the last stop of his tour. You can catch him on May 15th when he performs at Boot & Saddle.
The stage name, East India Youth, comes from the East India Docks area in East London where Doyle was living while he wrote his first album, stating it’s probably “because this place was the start of something new for me; I was creatively reborn.” That first album, Total Strife Forever, was met with critical acclaim and was nominated in 2014 for the Mercury Prize. His upcoming release, Culture of Volume, is set to drop on April 6th via XL Recordings.
