In November of last year, Speedy Ortiz were here playing a double-headlining show at Johnny Brenda’s with DC’s Ex Hex. If you messed that show, you’re in luck because the Massachusetts four-piece are set to return to the JB’s stage this spring. You can catch them on April 26th when they headline a show of their own with support from Mitski and Krill.
Back in 2012, Spedy Ortiz released their EP, Sports, which was met with much critical acclaim. In 2013, they released their debut full-length, Major Arcana, via Carpark Records. The album was very well-received, drawing support from all of the major media publications. The album was ranked among Pitchfork and Stereogum’s top 5o of the year. In 2014, they added guitarist Devin McKnight to their ranks. They filled out the rest of the year with a very demanding touring schedule.
Their upcoming support tour is in support of their second full-length, Foil Deer, which is slated for release on April 21st. Which gives Philly fans a few days to listen to the tracks before Speedy Ortiz take the stage at Johnny Brenda’s on the 26th. Just a few days ago, the band also announced the first single of the new record. You can get an instant download of the track if you pre-order their album over on iTunes. They also announced their extensive North American tour, which will also see them making stops at several festivals including SXSW, Shaky Knees, and Forecastle.
