Toro y Moi is an American recording artist and producer. His music has taken on many different styles throughout his career in recording however; he is often identified as chillwave. His stage name is multilingual expression consisting of the Spanish words ‘toro y” meaning “bull and,” and the French word “moi” which translates to “me.”
In 2009 Toro y Moi signed to Carpack Records where he released his first full-length album Causers of This in 2010. His second album, Underneath the Pine, was released later in 2011. He was chosen by Caribou to perform at the ATP Nightmare Before Christmas festival that they co-curated in England. Shortly after, he released an EP titled Freaking Out, featuring a cover of “Saturday Love” by Cherrelle and Alexander O’Neal.
Recently, he released a new, free interactive album available for download on Bittorent which combined both audio and visuals in collaboration with Vinyl Williams. The album was titled, Trance Zen Dental Spa. The album music and visuals are as one, an experiment of tactile listening.
