Corin Roddick is part of the Canadian synth-pop duo Purity Ring. Along with Megan James, the band’s vocalist, Roddick released Purity Ring’s debut Shrines in 2012. The album included singles “Obedear” and “Fineshrine”. Earlier that year the band signed to 4AD and Last Gang Records. The band has since released two non-album singles “Belispeak II” (featuring Danny Brown) and “Grammy”.
Before Purity Ring, Roddick was drummer for Gobble Gobble, a Canadian indie-rock band. Purity Ring was his first forray into electronic music. In a interview with the Chicago Tribune, Roddick said, “I got into electronic music because of the possibilities of sound creation…I was getting bored with traditional instruments. There is still a lot of great music being made with them, but I got sick of being in bands with guitars and drums. I wanted the ability to create any sound by using synthesizers and warping samples, dropping in audio, making sounds no one has heard. With drums and guitar you can write a great song, but the sounds are kind of obvious. The palette for electronic music is much wider. There’s a lot more mystery around it.”
