It will be the 5th year that GWAR will host the GWAR-B-Q, however, it will be the first that founder of the thrash metal band, Dave Brockie will only be present in spirit due to his passing last March.
The band is still rolling out with performances as well as heavy hearts. Beefcake The Mighty, otherwise known as Mike Bishop, will lead GWAR as headliner for a day of meat, mayhem, and metal. The festivities will take place on August 16th at Hadad’s Lake in Richmond, VA.
On March 23rd, the legendary Oderus Urungus, passed away tragically at 50 years old. GWAR-B-Q will be accompanied by a memorial to honor him the day before the Sickest Slaughter Fest on August 15th, also at Hadad’s Lake from 4-7pm. The memorial is open to the public.
Other random Facebook posts and tweets confirm that original Scumdog members will descend on the GWAR B-Q to bear witness to a Viking funeral for Oderus Urungus, whose form will burn upon the SS Boat as he makes his journey back to Valhalla and beyond.
Tickets go on sale June 6th and can be purchased directly from gwarbq.com. There are three types of tickets depending on your level of metal head. $45 gets you a standard ticket with all day entry. $65 gets you the same, plus an official GWAR-B-Q tshirt. If you splurge, the $200 ticket includes; B4BQ show entry, VIP Pass for private Gwafter Party (venue TBA), as well as Meet & Greet signings with GWAR, Ice-T of Body Count, Hatebreed, Bam Margera of Jackass, and a possible chance to appear on stage with GWAR.
As the “nut busting anticipation mounts [for] bohabs from across the globe,” Balsac the Jaws of Death will be the DJ for the ‘drunken feeding frenzy’ this Thursday, May 22nd. During Industry Happy Hour at Eat The Rich in Washington, DC, specialty drinks created by Derek Brown, JP Fetherston, Robert Tinney, and oysters from Rappahannock River Oysters, LLC will be featured. The party commences at 11pm and ends at 2:30am. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Dave Brockie Fund.
