Cut Copy is an Australian electronic band that formed in 2001 by DJ Dan Whitford who is now on vocals, keyboard and guitar for the group. The band started out as a home-recording project with other members Tim Hoey, Ben Browning and Mitchell Scott. Cut Copy has released four studio albums, an EP, and multiple singles and remixes on Modular Recordings. Their breakthrough success was with their second album, In Ghost Colours (2008), which reached No. 1 on ARIA Albums Chart.
Cut Copy released their most recent album, Free Your Mind, in 2013. The album was promoted only by debuting their first single “Free Your Mind” in six specific locations around the world. Fans were informed that they could visit selected billboards in Mexico, Chile, Australia, two locations in the U.S. (Detroit, and California) and one in the UK. When fans were standing near the billboard, they could open an app which would allow them to stream the track through their smartphones. The single rapidly gained recognition and started getting regular airplay in surrounding areas.
