Now you can listen and experience the birth and rise of psych-rock boss’ the Flaming Lips online
A lot has been said about The Flaming Lips recently, the reason: the band’s never-ending schedule and projects put them as one of the most prolific and busy music acts in the world; In the past months we’ve seen them everywhere on the internet, as part of the Buku Music+Art Project festival, the participation on Mark Linkou’s tribute album, the release of the Peace Sword EP and their soon-to-come release of Stone Roses cover album are just a few examples of the band’s proficiency.
But way before you could see LIPS frontman Wayne Coyne’s face everywhere, there was a punk-pop sonic entity with no clue of what future would hold for it. As recently announced on mxdwn, the band is letting fans revisit their original ideas with the release of a very limited edition of the Lips first-ever EP as well as The Flaming Lips 2nd Cassette Demo. As posted on The Future Heart, Coyne himself started a Record Store Tour on which he has been selling the EP’s and meeting fans.
The good news are that now you can listen to The Flaming Lips 2nd Cassette Demo even if you are not part of the selected 2000 fans who are getting the physical copies, as it has surfaced online. Recorded in 1983 and remastered by drummer Kliph Scurlock, the 30 year songs capture a metamorphosis in the band’s sound, as posted by The Future Heart:
…it captures the group in a transition from its primitive shambolic drug-damaged punk-pop to the primitive shambolic drug-damaged hallucinogenic cosmic brother death rock heard on the 1st EP
