Less than a month to go for the release of Pearl Jam’s tenth, Lightning Bolt, and the grungers have now acknowledged our needs by leaking of another song from the new record, this time with the video for “Sirens”.
It’s a powerful track, layered with dynamics that emerge from everywhere within the band. Notably they appear in the passion churning out of Eddie Vedder’s vocals, a characteristic we know the man for all too well. Guitarist Mike McCready also provides a booming solo that enriches the song and amps up its power even more.
“Sirens” is the fourth song from Lightning Bolt that fans have gotten access to already – Pearl Jam lit up the crowd at Chicago’s Wrigley Field in July when they revealed “Future Days” and “Lightning Bolt” to them. Then the band released the video for “Mind Your Manners” last month, and its raucous energy feels an emotional step away from the soul-searching “Sirens”. Both videos were directed by Danny Clinch, and while he used a similar setup for the two, he also did a great job at modifying them to distinguish the attitude each song holds. See “Mind Your Manners” here, and compare it to what Clinch achieved with “Sirens”, below:
Pearl Jam kicks off their North American tour leg in Pittsburgh, October 11th, and will then be headlining Australia’s Big Day Out Festival, in January and February 2014.
