New York City based heavy metal band, Prong, and Canadian heavy metal band, Voivod, have announced a 2024 North American double-headlining tour. The groups with be making a stop in Berkeley at the UC Theatre on March 9.
Prong formed in 1986 and gradually rose to fame through the New York City underground throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. Their current lineup is founding member and vocalist Tommy Victor, bassist Jason Christopher, and drummer Tyler Bogliole. Together the band in its many forms have released a total of 13 studio albums, with their most recent, State of Emergency, having arrived last year. The group is known for combining elements of groove metal, thrash metal, and industrial in a way that has allowed them to continue to grow and maintain relevance as one of the pioneering groove metal acts of the 1990s.
Voivod formed in Jonquiere, Quebec in 1982. Since their inception they’ve gone through various stylistic shifts across their 16 studio albums. They began as a speed metal group and would eventually mix in elements of both progressive and thrash metal to create and instantly recognizable sound among metal fans. Voivod is drummer Michael “Away” Langevin, guitarist Denis “Chewy” Belanger, vocalist Daniel “Chewy” Mongrain, and bassist Dominic “Rocky” Laroche.
