Knife Party are scheduled to visit Chicago in early October. The electronica duo will energize audience members at one of the city’s top spots for nightlife, PRYSM. Fans can see Knife Party live on Oct. 1 at 10 p.m.
Knife Party produced their most recent release in 2019. In April of that year, they previewed “Ghost Train” on Knifecast, a podcast created in 2018. Throughout their episodes, the pair shared different versions and other previews of tracks from the upcoming release. Titled Lost Souls, the four-track EP was their first since 2015 Trigger Warning. Consistently for five years, Knife Party released a new EP annually, with the exception of their only LP Abandon Ship in 2014. Listeners highly anticipated Lost Souls due to promotions through Knifecast and their four-year break from producing new music, not including remixes and appearances on other artists’ work.
The Australian duo consists of Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen. Both started as founders of Pendulum, an electronic rock band formed in 2002 of drum and bass style. The two expanded their music careers by developing Knife Party in 2011. Since then, Swire and McGrillen have produced five EPs and one studio album, most of which hit international charts. EPs Rage Valley from 2012 and Haunted House from 2013 remain the pair’s most popular releases. Rage Valley included popular tracks “Rage Valley,” “Bonfire” and “Centipede,” while Haunted House featured “Power Glove” and “LRAD.” One of their most popular songs to date is an eerie piece about digital stalking titled “Internet Friends” from their debut EP 100% No Modern Talking in 2011. Based on the popularity of these classic tracks combined with hype from their recent EP, fans can likely expect to hear a mix of classics as well as tracks from Lost Souls at their upcoming Chicago performance.
