N.W.A.
Procol Harum

Scrolling through the list, the musical talents of each artist do not all scream rock’n’roll. But the evolution of music from one genre to the next yields open interpretation. President and CEo of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, Joel Peresman, stated,
“The definition of ‘rock and roll’ means different things to different people, but as broad as the classifications may be, they all share a common love of the music.”
Inducted or not, Public Enemy and hip hop group N.W.A can both hold pride that they are nominated in their first year of eligibility. Criteria for being eligible for nomination require that the artist released their first single or album at least 25 years prior to nomination. This means that all who are nominated released their first record in 1987 or earlier.
Other groups nominated for the first time are Deep Purple and Rush. Several artists on the list have also had previous opportunities to bask in the glory of holding a spot in the Rock Hall museum in Cleveland, OH, and return again in hopes that 2013 is their year. These include the late Donna Summer, Chic, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and Heart.
As inspired by public voting of the up and coming America’s Pop Music Hall of Fame, the public will also be able to chime in on who they think should hold that spot. Fans have until December 5 to log their votes on RollingStone.com. Ballots will also be distributed, as per usual, to 600+ “artists, historians, and members of the music industry,” as stated in the Rock Hall.
Only two months left to vote and six months until we have another beloved artists in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
