Easily one of the truly golden voices of Bluebeat, Ska, Rocksteady and Roots Reggae, Alton Ellis has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 70.
Rising out of the extremely fertile musical landscape that was Coxone Dodd’s Studio One sound imprint, Ellis, backed by the harmonies of The Flames, recorded several songs that became Jamaican music standards like “Cry Tough,” “Girl I’ve Got A Date,” “All My Tears (Come Rolling)” and “Ready Rocksteady.”
Alto Ellis is survived by his sister and 15 Children.http://www.riddimjamaica.net/profiles/blog/show?id=1047588%3ABlogPost%3A5082
