A new Tool album is in the works. Frontman, Maynard James Keenan recently announced that the band is in the early stages of their unique writing process.
Maynard James Keenan, frontman of Tool and A Perfect Circle has been keeping busy despite the fact that Tool hasn’t released any music since 2006, and A Perfect Circle since 2003. As of a couple weeks ago, Maynard released a sophomore effort under his solo moniker, Puscifer, entitled Conditions of My Parole. As Puscifer is preparing to embark upon their fall tour, Maynard announced that the writing process has begun for Tool’s next creative endeavor.
Each record, Tool’s songwriting method begins with guitarist Adam Jones and drummer Danny Carey before Maynard becomes involved in the creative process. Once they have built a basic framework for the record, Maynard dives in. In terms of the status of their new record, Maynard stated, “I’m allowing them their space to do what they do, so we’re still in that mode […] and then we go in and knock it all out”. Though it is far too early to talk about release dates, it will be the first album Tool has put out in nearly 6 years.
