Been following Occupy Wall Street? Well, musical sentiments can now go hand-in-hand with any political leanings as a number of artists show up to show their support and to offer their own musical and rhetorical contributions to our current topical themes. Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello recently joined protestors in New York City’s Zuccotti Park to speak and to play a few unplugged numbers.
Morello played an appropriately-themed choice, “This Land is Your Land,” the Dylan standard covered by populous-minded guitarists since the early 60s.
The movement has also attracted musical personalities like Neutral Milk Hotel’s Jeff Magnum, Brooklyn rapper Talib Kweli, and a very quiet Kanye West.
After “eviction” was from Zuccotti Park was postponed after cleaning efforts by Brookfield Properties were abandoned , many protesters (some battered after run-ins with New York’s finest), are wondering what’s next.
Regardless of the outcome of the protests, Zuccotti Park and its occupiers can undeniably say that they have drawn not only national media attention, but musical support of Morello’s caliber to their cause.
