Vocalist and musician Chris Spencer has left the industrial hardcore band he fronted, Unsane, and will be forming a new group called Human Impact, with Jim Coleman of Cop Shoot Cop, Chris Provdica of Swans and Phil Puleo who has worked with both groups. This newly formed group will also have its first show this week, on August 20 at the Union Pool in Brooklyn.

“Just to clarify, I will not be playing in Unsane anymore,” Spencer stated in an Italian interview (with an English translation provided by the publisher) on social media. “I’m super proud of what we accomplished, but I need to move on. I’d rather end it on a good note than be a slave to something I’ve always loved.”

In the interview, the singer also states that Coleman, who has been a close friend of Spencer since the formation of their bands in that late 1980s, approached him with an idea to collaborate a year ago. Both Unsane and Cop Shoot Cop are influential in their respective noise rock scenes.

“Jim approached me about a year ago and asked if I would want to do something together. Jim and I had been friends since the early days of Unsane and Cop Shoot Cop and I had always wanted to do something with him, so of course I was in,” Spencer elaborated. “We started writing some songs and when we wanted to record them in a studio Phil and Chris P came on board. We recorded a few at first, but things went really well, so we continued to record until we had a full length record.”
