It’s been a somber week in the United States as two mass shootings have taken place back to back in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas. Many celebrities, congress people, and artists have taken to social media to relay their thoughts and prayers and express their concerns towards the shootings. Among these people is Lana Del Rey who expressed her own feelings about the shootings and gun violence via Instagram. The singer songwriter posted a video today of her singing a new song she wrote about gun violence titled “Looking for America.”
Along with the video, Del Rey explained her inspiration for the song and the story of how it came to be in her caption. She wrote, “Hi folks came back early from Montecito with my brother this morning and asked Jack Antonoff to come into town because I had a song on my mind that I wanted to write. Now I know I’m not a politician and I’m not trying to be so excuse me for having an opinion- but in light of all of the mass shootings and the back to back shootings in the last couple of days which really affected me on a cellular level I just wanted to post this video that our engineer Laura took 20 minutes ago. I hope you like it. I’m singing love to the choruses I recorded this morning. I’m going to call it ‘Looking for America.’ Additionally, Del Rey tagged her engineer Laura Sisk and her producer Jack Antonoff. Check out “Looking for America” below:
In a few weeks Lana Del Rey will be releasing her sixth studio album titled Norman Fucking Rockwell which will be out on August 30th. The album will be a follow up to her fifth studio album Lust for Life which was released back in 2017. In addition to her upcoming album, the artist will also be going on tour this fall, visiting West coast cities in Canada, Washington, Oregon, and California along with select cities in Europe.
