The Dears’ Murray Lightburn celebrated his fortieth birthday today, and he did so in style. The good folks at Under the Radar incited the crowd to sing “Happy Birthday” to him and then provided the crowd with party hats and mini cupcakes. For their own short set, The Dears brought all of the energy they’re known for and then some. Each member had a moment to shine, blasting out either note-perfect solos, intricate keyboard melodies or in Lightburn’s case, wailing vocals. “Yesteryear,” in particular ended in a triumphant explosion of energy. In a touching moment, Lightburn dedicated their closing performance of “Twenty Two” to Under the Radar’s founder Mark and Wendy Redfern.
