Indie rock band Interpol have released a music video for their single “If You Really love Nothing,” which features actress Kristen Stewart and actor Finn Wittrock. This is the third and latest single to be released for their upcoming studio album Marauder, which is set to be released tomorrow.
The video, which is shot in Los Angeles opens with Wittrock smoking outside what appears to be a Hollywood nightclub, before the camera pans to a title screen. Interpol are then shown inside the club, as the shot then goes back to Stewart meeting Wittrock, kissing him then going inside the venue.
Shots then go between the band and the couple, as the video proceeds, their is a notion that Stewart being in a relationship with him may be a figment of his imagination or a real life nightmare. Stewart is then shown kissing another man in the club, while a relatively large man, who is in the posse of Stewart’s new lover, approaches Wittrock and throws him out of the club.
“If You Really Love Nothing,” was directed by Hala Matar, a director from Bahrain who is best known for directing a few independent short films. For this video the director used a variety of different lighting techniques to capture a brooding tone for the video, to created a sense of noir, which Los Angeles is well known for.
“Hala is a young director I had the pleasure of meeting a few years ago, and I’ve been a big fan of her short film work since,” Paul Banks, Interpol’s lead singer stated. “Her luscious use of colors and lighting, her insightful dialogue and playful direction, for me, are her hallmarks. There’s always humor, drama and atmosphere to spare in her work. I see all of these qualities in her video for ‘If You Really Loving Nothing’. And speaking on behalf of Interpol, we are so proud to have had the opportunity of this collaboration.”
The release date for Interpol’s sixth studio album Marauder was announced back in June at a press conference in Mexico City back in June. The event was live-streamed on Facebook and gave fans the opportunity to learn about the making of the album.
“Marauder is a facet of myself. That’s the guy that fucks up friendships and does crazy shit,” Banks stated regarding the album. “He taught me a lot, but it’s representative of a persona that’s best left in song. In a way, this album is like giving him a name and putting him to bed.”
In July the band released a music video for their first single of the new album, the “The Rover,” which was also shot in Mexico City. In the video directed by the Narcos Netflix series director Gerardo Naranjo. actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach is shown as a cult leader. Later that month the band premiered their second single for the album “Number 10,” on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 program on Apple Music.
