Grouper, AKA Liz Harris, will begin touring North America and Europe this fall. According to Pitchfork magazine the tour kicks off on September 8 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Liz Harris is the sole performer of Grouper, writing, playing and frequently producing the ambient music she is known for. The California native, is not only a musician but also a visual artist and avid sailor and currently resides in Oregon.
Her latest album, Grid of Points, came out in April of this year. The seven track album clocks in at just over twenty minutes and according to a previous mxdwn article, took a week-and-a-half to write. Harris uses minimal instruments but produces great depth in her music with the use of tape loops and field recordings.
Performing under the alias of Grouper since 2005, Harris has recorded several critically acclaimed albums, many on her own record label. Pitchfork called her 2008 release, Dragging a Dead Dear Up a Hill, “simple, beautiful and a bit obscure.” In addition to her own work, Harris has collaborated with a significant number of other artists, including Xiu Xiu, Tiny Vipers, Lawrence English and The Bug.
Earlier this year Basilica Soundscape announced that Grouper would be headlining this year’s festival. The Basilica Soundscape festival is September 14-17 in Hudson, New York. See additional tour dates and locations below.
