Robyn plans to release a new album. At New York’s Red Bull Music Festival, she shared demos of three new songs: “Be Mine,” “Dancing on My Own,” and “Honey.” She’s been working on the album for a while now. She states, “It’s almost there.” In addition to her new album, she is set to go on tour. Dates and venues have yet to be released.
“Dancing on My Own” has been a hit of hers for a while as it was released in 2010. There may be a new version on her upcoming album but that has yet to be confirmed. Like an artist or writer, she likes to spend time with her work to make sure it’s the best that it can be.
Recently while sitting down to do an interview and also at an after-party show in Brooklyn, she played a full set and she gave listeners a sneak peek of a vulnerable new track called, “Honey.” Originally, a demo version of this track was released as a part of Lena Dunham’s “Girls” but Robyn was not content with the song and spent some time in the studio trying to get the song to a point where she was happy with it. The new version of the song is more subtle in the beginning. The song begins softer and slower with lines that build on each other: the song has a digital intro and vocals that are soon layered with more harmonies. Strings come in a few seconds into the song, giving it a soft feel, which is what she was aiming for. The lyrics of the chorus discuss a relationship that is still sweet, “You not gone get what you need/ Baby you have what you want/ Come get your honey.”
