The highly influential British musician who co-founded English sensations Throbbing Gristle and Coil, Peter Christopherson, suffered an unexpected death on Wednesday night.
Christopherson, dubbed with the odd nickname ‘Sleazy’ from close friends, died in his sleep at his home in Bankok Wednesday evening. Although the legendary Brit lived just 55 years, his success went a long way. Not only did he leave a mark in the music industry by helping to form Throbbing Gristle, and Coil, he also was involved with Hipgnosis, a renown British art design group, and Psychic TV, both a art and music group. His talents went even beyond music and art; he’s also directed dozens of music videos over the year and is very experienced in video directing.
Also shocked and saddened by the news, Throbbing Gristle’s website recently designed their website to open with the following statement regarding Christopherson’s passing, along with a memorable photo:
“We are saddened to announce the death of Peter Christopherson. Sleazy passed away peacefully in his sleep on the 24th November 2010 at his home in Bangkok.”
A Throbbing Gristle band member, Chris Tutti, adds a public condolence on Twitter:
“Our dearest beautiful Sleazy left this mortal coil as he slept in peace last night.words cannot express our grief.”
Also on Twitter, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails expresses his grief shortly after hearing what happened:
“I awake to sad news. RIP Peter Christopherson — friend and huge inspiration.”
