Chris Pureka has been making music since 2001. The American acoustic singer has long since spoken out about racial and political issues. Chris Pureka has identified as genderqueer since the early 1990s. Pureka has received huge praise for her stance on social issues as well as her music. Pureka’s appearance has been described as androgynous, a combination of man and woman styles. Chris Pureka’s last album was back in 2016, Back in the Ring.
Raised in Connecticut, Chris Pureka began writing at an early age. Pretty soon after, Pureka became a local performer at various small venues. After graduating college, Chris Pureka began focusing on music full time. Pureka released her debut self-titled EP in 2001. After the release, Chris Pureka went on a nationwide tour with Alix Olsen. In 2004, Pureka released Driving North, Chris Pureka’s first studio album. In May 2007, Chris Pureka went on tour alongside other songwriters for the New American Songwriter Tour. Chris Pureka won an ASCAPLUS award for her songwriting in 2007.
Chris Pureka founded Sad Rabbit Music Records in 2006. Pureka released her second album, How I Learned to See in the Dark, in 2007. Chris Pureka has toured with Martin Sexton, Catie Curtis, The Cowboy Junkies, and many others. Two years later, Chris releases her fourth EP, Chimera in 2009. In 2016, Chris Pureka released her first new music since 2013 with the album Back in the Ring.
