Canadian indie rockers Arcade Fire have been slowly warming up over the past year or so, releasing new music here and there throughout the year while touring at some of the biggest festivals. Now, well they just opened Pandora’s Box within a matter of hours for fans.
First, the band began with some cryptic activity online. They livestreamed a video entitled “Live From Death Valley,” although nothing eventful seemed to happen on the stream, other than a shot of Korean characters spelling out “Everything Now,” (after someone translated it). Then they went live on Facebook with a video of a sign containing “EN” burning in the middle of the desert.
But now, we finally have some answers. All the mystery and teasers were the buildup to a new album. Arcade Fire revealed Everything Now, the follow-up to 2013’s Reflektor. The new album will drop July 28 following their departure from Merge Records. The album is also available for preorder through the bands website, and will be released on all the standard formats, including cassette (how is this a thing?).
Pretty good news right? Well sit down and be humble because we have even more news. In addition to the new album announcement, the band dropped off visuals for the first new single, also entitled “Everything Now.” The track opens up with what is presumably a snippet of another unannounced track, but quickly gives way to the lead single. The new track is a disco-rock banger full of stadium-geared guitars and bubbly bass riffs, plenty to keep fans happy. There’s even a little ABBA-esque melody thrown in there for fans of the deeper cuts. The video for the track shows the band playing in the middle of a deserted desert town, with “Everything Now,” emblazoned on everything in sight as kids roam the barren landscape.
Stay tuned to guide through all the craziness over the coming month as new details start to roll out, and check out the new video below.
