Bloodclot is a long running supergroup music project with it’s most recent formation featuring:
John Joseph (Cro-Mags) – Vocals
Todd Youth (ex-Danzig) – Guitars
Nick Oliveri (ex-Queens of the Stone Age) – Bass
Joey Castillo (ex-Queens of the Stone Age, ex-Danzig) – Drums
Bloodclot’s origin story is a long one that dates back to a 1981 Bad Brains tour, and past versions of Bloodclot (2007 and 2013) also featured killer musicians surrounding Joseph, including various members of Biohazard, Pro-Pain, Bad Brains, and Dead Kennedys. The most recent incarnation of the supergroup came about late in 2016 when Cro-Mags guitarist AJ Novello was unable to play a show. This caused John Joseph to call a labor into Todd Youth to fill-in for him in which the two had such a good time playing together it brought about the reformation of Bloodclot. Soon after, Joey Castillo and Nick Oliveri were recruited to join the band, and Metal Blade Records CEO Brian Slagel offered them a worldwide deal.
Now the powerhouse group of hardcore pioneers will be releasing a new album titled Up In Arms on July 14 via Metal Blade Records. The first single from the album called “Kali,” is available for streaming now. “Kali Yuga” translates from Sanskrit as The Age Of Quarrel which is the first album from Joseph’s New York hardcore band. Kali Yuga refers to ancient scriptures dating back to 3100 BCE. According to Hindu tradition, Kali Yuga is the era in which human culture descends into chaos fro 432,000 years which would make it the era we’re in now. As Joseph said in a statement about Bloodclot’s mission:
Look around the planet — people are fed up with the corrupt ruling class. They destroy the planet and kill millions for profit, and the formula for our response is simple: Anger + applied knowledge = results. Don’t just bitch. Change it.
Listen to an extended preview of the new single “Kali” below and be on the lookout for Up in Arms in July. The band is also touring through the summer with Negative Approach.
