2016 was a hard year for many reasons. One of those obviously being the loss of one of the greatest artists of all time; an icon, a musical genius, a beautiful soul, a symbol: Prince. If there’s a silver lining in this loss, it may be that his legendary backing band, The Revolution, is going on a four city tour this spring. The band announced their spring concert series last month and will hit New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC and Chicago.
The group consisting of Bobby Z, Wendy Melvoin, Brownmark, Matt Fink and Lisa Coleman reunited after the death of the Purple one. They played at a tribute concert this past October and are slated to perform as part of the three-day concert Celebration 2017 at Paisley Park. This particular lineup was with Prince during the “Purple Rain” and “Around the World in a Day” eras and these concerts are a way to help the fans heal and honor his memory and legacy.
Drummer Bobby Z says, “Prince said that music is medicine. People need it, and we need it, and we can make it as authentic as we can. In honor of him, we’ll give it everything we’ve got.”
The iconic band is playing at Metro on April 23rd and 24th.
