It’s in Vagabon’s debut album Infinite Worlds that Laetitia Tamko sings of her past growing up in Cameroon before moving to New York City–the past that has molded her passionate and emotional lyrics about life, place, self. Persian Garden is the name of her striking EP–one that introduces Vagabon’s sound with her cool and smooth voice that’s solidly supported by an intense drum and guitar, especially heard on the track “Shadows.” 

Vagabon is a rather young band–just two years old now–but they’ve found themselves on a successful path so far, finding their own niche in Bushwick that Tamko now calls home, and frequenting many favorite neighborhood venues like Silent Barn and Baby’s All Right (where the band’s upcoming show will be). It’s the gritty, indie scene of Brooklyn that seems to resonate the most with Tamko, using that as a source of inspiration while really trying to spread her sound to as many listeners as possible.

There’s an interesting energy to Vagabon’s music–a push and pull between something serious and resolute (which is most apparent on her new single “The Embers”) to something that’s adventurous and “bigger” in sound, demanding your attention and leaving you curious as to what might pour out of the band next.
