Kate Tempest released a sneak peek from her forthcoming album Let Them Eat Chaos due to drop this Friday (10/7). This track, titled “Ketamine for Breakfast”, exemplifies Tempest’s multitudinous talents which have earned her titles including but not limited to artist, musician, novelist, poet, and playwright. And the titles are obviously well-deserved, proved by examples like her Sunday Times bestseller The Bricks That Built Houses, her Ted Hughes Poetry Prize for her poem“Brand New Ancients”, and her soul-moving musical performances here and abroad.
This new song is a beautifully bona fide blend of her various talents, as it opens with some spoken word and suddenly breaks out in a fluent rap over a heavy techno beat. Her words tell the story of a drug-infused lifestyle characterized by daily danger and unhealthy romances, spitting the lines “If you’re good to me I will let you go…If you’re bad to me I will like you more”.
