Lake Street Dive at Brooklyn Paramount on March 12th

Lake Street Dive will perform at Brooklyn Paramount on March 12. The show will take place just a few weeks after the band releases their ninth album, What About Flamingos?.

Lake Street Dive formed in 2004 while the founding members studied jazz at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Vocalist Rachael Price fronts the group, supported by bassist Bridget Kearney, drummer Michael Calabrese, keyboardist Akie Bermiss, and guitarist/trumpeter James Cornelison. The band blends indie pop, soul, jazz, and folk into a distinct sound.

For the upcoming record, Price wanted to record music in a way that reflected the group’s interactive live performances. The band explains, “When we set out to record this album, our focus was simple: to play live in a room together—human and alive and perfect in its imperfection. We arrived without knowing what songs the others had been writing, with an open invitation to bring anything to the session. Each of us brought our own stories, loves, losses, and philosophies. As the album came together, a common thread.”

The album cover also features the band standing on Manhattan’s Little Island. Lake Street Dive played at the park this past summer.
