Lake Street Dive Announce New Album ‘What About Flamingos?’ For February 2027 Release

Prior to the album announcement, Lake Street Dive released their first single, “You’re Never Around.” The song has become quite popular, amassing 1.5 million streams and 2 million views across various platforms. Be sure to check out their rendition of the Jackson Five’s I Want You Back, which also garnered 2 million views from the 2026 Newport Jazz Festival.

The new single serves as a reminder to appreciate the everyday wonders, especially the joy of playing music with friends for twenty-two years. Originating in Boston and now based in New York City, Lake Street Dive consists of lead vocalist Rachael Price, drummer Mike Calabrese, keyboardist Akie Bermiss, and guitarist James Cornelison, all of whom provide background vocals. As Rolling Stone noted, they have “quietly become a powerhouse live act able to play Madison Square Garden.”

“When we set out to record this album, our focus was simple: to play live in a room together—human and alive and perfect in its imperfection,” says Lake Street Dive. “We arrived without knowing what songs the others had been writing, with an open invitation to bring anything to the session. Each of us brought our own stories, loves, losses, and philosophies. As the album came together, a common thread.”

Their upcoming album, What About Flamingos?, was produced by two different producers on opposite coasts: Philip Weinrobe (who has worked with Adrianne Lenker, Big Thief, and Cass McCombs) at Spillway Sounds in West Hurley, NY, and Jonathan Wilson (known for his work with Father John Misty, Angel Olsen, Dawes, and Margo Price) at his Topanga Canyon studio in Los Angeles.

Their dedicated fanbase has long requested a live album, and Lake Street Dive has responded by recording What About Flamingos? live together for the first time. The band members exchanged songwriting prompts to inspire each other. For the funky and danceable track Fences, Akie prompted Bridget to “combine Robert Frost’s poem ‘Mending Fences’ with Janet Jackson’s Control.

It’s Getting Late emerged when Bridget asked Rachael to “imagine Laura Marling writing a song for Lake Street Dive. For the song Back In Time, Rachael requested Mike to use the old American Songbook structure A, B, A, C and insisted, “There has to be a singalong at the end.”

What About Flamingos? will be released on February 19, 2027, and will be available for pre-order on vinyl and CD. This marks the first release on the band’s own label, Dive Not Dive Records. Stay tuned for tour dates!
