Cold War Kids released a new single, “Jesse Latour,” on Oct. 9. The track was written during the band’s Robbers & Cowards era in 2006 and never made it to the recording studio until now. The inspiration for the song came from Bob Dylan and Nathan Willett’s old friend from Fullerton, a “sensitive poet who listened to Belle & Sebastian and you just knew that the world was gonna break his heart,” Willett adds.

The storytelling style of Bob Dylan’s “Isis” was something Willett wanted to try writing in order to tell an adventure-style narrative.

The song puts listeners in a state of motion, with rapid strumming guitars and lyrics that tell a descriptive story of what Jesse looked like and the specific moment he experienced heartbreak, which led him to leave everything behind as he traveled from country to country.

“Jesse Latour,” along with other songs such as “Loyalty,” “There Goes the Night” and “She Can Do No Wrong,” will be part of Robbers & Cowards / Complete Cowards (20th Anniversary Edition), arriving Oct. 30.
