Organisers announced that the Global Citizen Festival 2026 has been cancelled due to the extreme weather forecast for New York City this weekend. The annual festival was set to take place this Saturday on the Great Lawn in Central Park, with a line-up that included Lauryn Hill. In a statement, Global Citizen said it decided in consultation with the City of New York and NYC Parks after forecasts pointed to dangerous conditions.
“Safety has to come first,” organisers said, noting that this is the first time the festival has been cancelled in its 14-year history.
Despite the cancellation, Global Citizen highlighted the impact of this year’s campaign. According to organisers, Global Citizens took 3.5 million actions over the past six weeks, helping secure $208.8 million in financial commitments expected to impact more than 9.5 million people. Fans who purchased festival tickets will have their refunds processed automatically, while those who made donations to secure tickets will also have the option to receive a refund.
Global Citizen also confirmed that food originally planned for the festival will be donated to local organisations serving New York City. The organisation says it plans to return to Central Park next year, 2027.
