Satanic Planet Unveil Fiery New Single & Video “Church Burning”

Satanic Planet has released their new single “Church Burning” alongside an official music video. The track is the band’s newest song off of their upcoming album Dead Deities, which will be released via Relapse Records on October 30 and include eleven tracks. “Church Burning” references a 2022 incident where “…a man wearing a tshirt with ‘GOD’ printed across the chest set fire to The Satanic Temple headquarters, a legally recognized church, in Salem. This is a song about the hypocrisy of religious violence and how our opposition destroy their own ethical credibility every time they have attacked us with arson, bombs, and violent assaults. We will always rebuild. It is their own church they burn,” comments Lucien Greaves. The music video seemingly depicts a ritual taking place, with the Satanic Planet members appearing surrounded by a ring of fire while various figures wearing masks spin fire around the band as they sing, with others breaking free from their captivity in order to join the band.

Through their upcoming album, we will see a band coming into its own while offering an aggressive, pitch-black, deeply surly call-to-arms against autocracy in the age of Christian nationalism. While in the studio, the band was working to create a sound and lyrical catalog of ideas that Greaves says is both more personal and even closer aligned to the goals of The Satanic Temple, which through art, action, and activism seeks to “encourage benevolence and empathy, reject tyrannical authority, advocate practiced common sense, oppose injustice, and undertake noble pursuits.” Dead Deities is described as a journey through modern dark music with tolling bells, blackened synth, diabolical noise interludes, drums as heavy as a mountain, and group vocals torn straight out of your best-worst nightmares.
