Anthrax released a new music video for “Cursum Perficio,” from their 12th studio album, on Sept. 18. The music video was directed by Don Argott and produced by Don Argott and Jeff Archer. The video stars London May as a man who is pulled by a chain.
The music video is filmed entirely in black and white and follows a man being dragged by metal chains throughout the video. He travels through different landscapes, including fields and mountains, while facing rain and snow as he struggles to break free from the chains.
The track is a thrash metal ballad that is heavy and rhythmic while also being melodic and lyrically introspective. The song focuses on life’s struggles and reflecting on past choices at the end of life. The title “Cursum Perficio” is Latin for “My journey has come to an end,” which fits the themes explored throughout the video.
The video matches the tone of the song, with the difficult filming conditions capturing a sense of real struggle. London May, an American musician and actor known as a drummer and bassist for Glenn Danzig’s post-Misfits projects, broke his finger on the first day of shooting because the production used real metal chains. May continued shooting despite the injury and his pain shown in the video is real.
May stated that he “went through hell and back for Anthrax” and would happily do it again.
