Movements at Terminal 5 on October 23rd

This fall, Movements embarks on the Happier Now USA Tour in support of their new album, landing in NYC at Terminal 5 on October 23rd with support from Balance and Composure, Midrift, and Niis. 

Formed in Rancho Santa Margarita, California in 2015, Movements has primarily consisted of vocalist Patrick Miranda, bassist and guitarist Austin Cressey (who is supported by guitarist Crust Young on tours), guitarist Ira George, and drummer Spencer York for the majority of their decade-long career. Signing a multi-album deal with Fearless Records after just one show, they released their debut EP, Outgrown Things, which was produced by Will Yip (who has produced all of their albums so far) and named one of the 12 Best EPs of 2016 by Alternative Press for its visceral mix of post-hardcore, emo, punk, and spoken word (the magazine also nominated them for the Best Underground Band award in 2017). The band continued in a similar vein on their first full-length album, 2017’s Feel Something, which peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard Alternative Album chart, 191 on the Billboard Hot 200, and included a collaboration with The Alzheimer’s Association for the music video of “Deadly Dull,” which Miranda wrote about his grandmother’s battle with the disease. 

Not wanting to be “pigeonholed into a band that only can do one thing,” Movements further developed their sound on 2020’s No Good Left To Give, attempting to defy expectations with a wider range of feels and featuring more polished vocals, electronic textures, piano lines, and a Cure-like shimmer. Their expansion paid off, with the album debuting at No. 3 on the Billboard Alternative Albums chart and reaching No. 171 on the Hot 200. After continuing in a slightly poppier direction on 2023’s RUCKUS!, they released their most recent album, Happier Now, this past week. On their biggest album yet, Movements flexes their masterful blend of beautiful melodic hooks, incredibly rich sonic atmospheres, heavy-hitting playing, and anthemic choruses, as Miranda unravels his complicated mental state in gut-wrenching detail. The album also demonstrates the band’s range from dreamy interlude “Spellbound,” to slow-burn tracks “Back in My Ways” and “Fragile Hands,” to explosively propulsive songs like “Ill at Ease” and “Dissolve Me.” With a sound that perfectly lends itself to catharsis, Movements’ performances somehow manage to both strike you to your core and uplift you with their pummeling force and transcendent spirit, making them incredibly high-energy experiences that allow you to leave it all on the venue floor.
