Global prog sensation Angine de Poitrine brings the worldwide tour for their sophomore album, Vol. II, to North America this fall including a three-night stop in NYC from November 16th to 18th at Brooklyn Steel with support from zouz.
Formed in Saguenay, Quebec, Angine de Poitrine consists of Khn de Poitrine, who plays a microtonal double-necked guitar-bass and uses a complex pedal board and looping station, and drummer, Klek de Poitrine. Having met in school and played together for 13 years, the duo put on their first show under their pseudonym and donning their signature alien-like black and white polka-dotted costumes and instruments, complete with papier mache heads and painted bodies, in 2019. Self-identifying as an Orchestre Rock Microtonal Dada-Pythago-Cubiste (Microtonal Dada-Pythagorean-Cubist Rock Orchestra), the duo put out their debut album, Vol. I, in 2024 which introduced a wider audience to their unique brand of math-rock that utilizes microtonal composition, involved live looping, and unorthodox time signatures, as well the occasional rhythmic chant or warbled melodic shriek.
In February 2026, KEXP posted a video of a live Angine de Poitrine session at the annual Trans Musicales festival in France, which blew up on the internet, going viral with over 18 million views so far and skyrocketing them to global stardom. Having chosen them for their “engaging sound, a dynamic live presence, and differing worldview that might set them apart from many of the other artists who come through KEXP’s live recordings,” the video proved that “Angine de Poitrine have all of that in spades… or should I say in triangles!” as the duo put on an extremely captivating live performance that featured their eccentric stage presence with the band chittering in their own language and making triangle hand symbols (that mirror the symbols on their getups) to each other between songs.
Angine de Poitrine released their sophomore album, Vol. II, independently earlier this year and partnered with regional and international partners for physical distribution. The album, as Apple Music describes it, “manages to condense the entire history of brain-bending rock music—from King Crimson to Gizzard—into a sound that’s both playfully delirious and oddly danceable” with tracks like the odd time-disco grooved “Fabienk,” country-tinged klezmer-metal of “Utzp,” and math-punk bombardment on “Yor Zarad.” Known for their virtuosic musicianship and technicality (especially for the fact their costumes make it quite difficult to see), reality-twisting time signatures and scales, face-melting guitar solos, hypnotic arrangements, otherworldly dance moves, and avant-garde live shows, Angine de Poitrine has become a worldwide phenomenon seemingly overnight, receiving millions of streams, praise from idols from Rush to Shania Twain, selling out concerts for tens of thousands of fans in seconds, and winning the Global Breakthrough Award at the Billboard Canada Power Players ceremony. It’s no doubt that they are one of the hottest bands in the world right now and, as Geddy Lee puts it, “the most entertaining and exhilarating bits of music that I’ve heard for a long long time.”
