Bea Miller Announces New Album Mr. Peaked in High School, Shares “drunk enough”

Bea Miller has announced that her new album, Mr. Peaked in High School, will arrive on September 18 via Republic Records. The singer also released the album’s latest single, “drunk enough.”

Miller wrote the new song with longtime collaborator Justin Tranter and producers Oak Felder and Dan Crean. “drunk enough” follows her previous singles “depressed on the internet” and “born to lose,” which will also appear on the upcoming record.

The song examines an uncertain relationship in which alcohol becomes a way of avoiding difficult emotions. Miller begins by questioning whether she has done too much before admitting that she wants to escape the pressure surrounding her. Although drinking briefly quiets her thoughts, she wakes up feeling empty and unable to find the relief she wanted.

On the chorus, Miller sings about passing out before becoming “drunk enough” and trying to numb herself while voices in her head tell her to give up. She later rejects the “fake love” she has been receiving and admits that she wants something more genuine. The second verse develops the song’s connection between alcohol and avoidance as Miller wonders whether she will ever become sober.

“drunk enough” introduces the emotional concerns Miller will address across Mr. Peaked in High School. The 13-track album examines identity, public perception and the effects of finding success at a young age. Its sound draws from pop, alternative music and R&B through a more band-oriented approach.

“I think this album is going to be the best thing I’ve ever done,” Miller said in a statement. “I feel like I’ve gotten my second wind at this point, and I’m ready to hopefully prove myself wrong for thinking I had reached my maximum level of success and would never be able to recreate that.”

According to mxdwn, Miller released her debut album, Not An Apology, in 2015, combining pop and rock with songs about youth, self-discovery and empowerment. Mr. Peaked in High School returns to questions of identity more than a decade later, but approaches them through Miller’s experiences with early success, relationships and adulthood.

Mr. Peaked in High School will also include songs titled “sex for ATTENTION,” “pretty and alone,” “summer of ’16,” “L.A. UGLY” and “past my prime.” Signed CD and vinyl editions are available for pre-order now.
