This winter, Blondshell begins her scaring strangers tour across North America, Europe, and the UK in support of her upcoming album, Violins, with an expansive array of special guests from Bully to Starcleaner Reunion. She arrives in NYC on March 22nd for a hometown show at Brooklyn Steel with support from NoSo.
Growing up in NYC in the late 90s and early 2000s, Sabrina Teitelbaum learned to play piano, guitar, and sing before moving to Los Angeles in 2015 to major in songwriting at USC Thornton School of Music. She dropped out two years in to pursue her music career, initially releasing pop music under the name BAUM before signing with Partisan Records as Blondshell in 2022 and landing a spot on BrooklynVegan’s “15 Artists to Watch in 2023” list ahead of her explosive debut album, Blondshell. The album, which charted at No. 88 on the Billboard Hot 200 and received praise from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and Barack Obama, introduced Teitelbaum’s powerful and witty brand of alternative-rock to audiences as opener “Veronica Mars” quickly launches into a white-hot guitar solo, she contemplates taking justice into her own hands on the empowering “Salad,” and her vocals soar to incredible heights on “Sepsis.”
In 2025, she released her sophomore album, If You Asked For A Picture, which takes on darker, more personal lyrical content with a fuller, richer sound that includes ventures into dream pop and ‘60s glam. Continuing with her leave-it-all-out-in-the-open confessional style, Teitelbaum showcases her unique ability to balance emotional intimacy with a wry, acerbic tone, delivering lines like “I asked him why he had these feelings. He said ‘your tits and ass don’t really hurt.’ And I think he really meant it” (“T&A”), “I’ve been running this ship like the navy, but it’s more like a Wendy’s” (“Toy”), and “23’s a baby, why’d you have a baby? (“23’s A Baby”). While many of her lyrics are downright hilarious, “we need the Steely Danification of this operation” for example, she also doesn’t shy away making even the simplest of sentiments like “what if I’m burnt out” on “Event of a Fire” feel devastatingly relatable.
After expanding on her previous release with a star studded companion album, Another Picture, Blondshell announced her upcoming album, Violins, scheduled for release on September 25th, with the statement, “each time I get to do this the music ends up closer to what I intended. I feel so proud of the record and excited to show you.” So far she has released the opening tracks “Violins” and “Heart Has To Work So Hard,” and has announced that the closing track “Fur Elise” will drop on August 18th. The already-released singles, which start the album off with a bang with a huge stadium-ready sound featuring driving drums, massive guitars, anthemic choruses, and uplifting guitar solos, indicate that Violins promises to see Teitelbaum at her biggest and best. Singing openly about topics like sobriety, sex, familial strife, and body dysmorphia with her instantly recognizable voice and trademark dry humor against a backdrop of a grunge-powered, tenderly raw alternative sound, Blondshell stands out from the pack as one of the most refreshing and thrilling artists in today’s indie rock.
