The Linda Lindas at Brooklyn Steel on October 8th

The Linda Lindas bring their Gotta Get Out North American Tour in support of their upcoming album (out on August 28th) to Brooklyn Steel on October 8th with special guest Deux Visages. 

The Linda Lindas were formed in Los Angeles in 2018 (when the members were only eight to fourteen years old) by sisters Mila (drums, vocals) and Lucia de La Garza (guitar, vocals), their cousin Eloise Wong (bass/vocals), and family friend Bela Salazar (guitar/vocals). The band got their start playing small benefit shows around LA when Kathleen Hanna, lead singer of legendary riot grrrl band Bikini Kill, saw them perform a cover of their iconic song, “Rebel Girl,” and asked The Linda Lindas to open for Bikini Kill at the Hollywood Palladium in 2019. The Linda Lindas were then invited by Amy Poehler, who had seen the show, to record music for her 2021 Netflix movie, Moxie!, including their viral cover. In May, 2021, amidst a wave of anti-Asian hate crimes in the U.S., the band performed their song “Racist, Sexist Boy” at the LA Public Library’s AAPI Heritage Month celebration. The song, which was written by Mila de la Garza about a racist comment a classmate had made toward her and features an aggressive sonic attack accentuated by tempo changes and Wong’s commanding growl, was nominated for Best Song at the Kerrang! Awards and won Best Punk Record at the Libera Awards. When the library posted The Linda Lindas’ show online, the band and their hit song went instantly viral, drawing enormous social media attention and praise from music celebrities (Tom Morello, Flea, Kathleen Hanna, to name a few), and landed them a record deal with Epitaph. 

In 2022, The Linda Lindas released their debut album, Growing Up, which, in addition to cathartic closer, “Racist, Sexist Boy,” showcased their range from the alternative rock-leaning, coming-of-age anthem, “Growing Up,” to the Ramones-esque punk of “Nino” (dedicated to and written about Salazar’s cat). After performing for select dates on Paramore’s This Is Why Tour and the Rolling Stones’ Hackney Diamonds Tour, The Linda Lindas, alongside Rancid and The Smashing Pumpkins, opened for Green Day (who have referred to The Linda Lindas as one of their “favorite bands ever”) throughout the North American leg of their massive The Saviors Tour in 2024. Performing for crowds of tens of thousands every night, The Linda Lindas commanded the stage with a powerful presence and infectious energy on par with even the most seasoned of bands. Shortly after the tour ended, they released their more expansive sophomore album, No Obligation, which continued to burn with the punk spirit that contributed to their early success and includes a feature from Weird Al. They are set to release their newest album, GOTTA GET OUT, through Reprise Records on August 28th, from which they have dropped the peppy, jump-inducing “Burning Out” and the darker, chunky-riffed “Closer,” which includes a gut-punching chorus from Paramore’s Hayley Williams (a long time fan of the band who has made multiple surprise appearances on stage with them). With nearly three killer albums already under their belt and each subsequent record feeling bigger and even more polished than the last, The Linda Lindas show no signs of slowing down and are surely on track to becoming one of the biggest names in modern punk rock (if they aren’t already).
